# Existing text during a content update

Question: is existing text preserved when I run a content update in the audit?

Answer: yes, for procedures that are already `waiting for review` or `completed`. These will not be updated.

Procedures that are still open, including `in progress`, can be updated: filled-in answers or conclusions are overwritten if the relevant activity definition changes, and linked sources are synchronized with the definition.
