# Deleting an audit

**PLEASE NOTE**: *deleting an audit is not the same as archiving an audit (after completion). After deletion (soft delete period of 7 days), the audit is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Therefore, only delete audits that must be permanently removed, for example because they were* [*wrongly created*](/engyon/en/frequently-asked-questions/setup/wrong-audit-created.md)*.*

#### Required permissions for deleting an audit

To delete an audit, you need the **Client manager** role **for the relevant client**. A role as Admin or Account Manager at the organisation level is not sufficient. See [Roles and permissions](/engyon/en/reference/settings/roles-and-permissions.md). Not sure who has that role? Ask the colleagues who set up and manage the roles for your firm.

If you have only just received the **Client manager** role on that client, it can take a few minutes before you can delete the audit. If it does not work yet, wait a moment and try again.

#### Deleting an audit

1. Go to <kbd>Options</kbd> at the bottom left and open <kbd>Organisation</kbd>.
2. Open the relevant client and then the <kbd>Audits</kbd> tab. Do not use <kbd>Home - all audits</kbd> in the navigation bar for this.
3. Click the trash icon (<i class="fa-trash">:trash:</i>) behind the audit.
4. Confirm in the <kbd>Delete audit</kbd> screen. If you want credits back, turn on the <kbd>Request a refund instead</kbd> switch, fill in the reason, and click <kbd>Confirm</kbd>.

If you do not turn on the switch, the audit will receive the yellow <kbd>deletion scheduled</kbd> tag and will be automatically deleted after 7 days, unless the request is reversed earlier.

If you request a refund, the blue tag `pending refund review` will appear first. Engyon reviews this request manually. As long as that tag is there, no <kbd>deletion scheduled</kbd> has occurred yet and you cannot speed up the deletion. After approval, the yellow tag appears; then the 7 days and <kbd>delete immediately</kbd> apply. The credits will be credited when the refund request is approved.

### Speeding up the deletion of an audit

The person who started the deletion cannot complete it themselves. Another user with **Client manager** or **Client admin** for that client will see an additional icon (`delete immediately`) <i class="fa-dumpster-fire">:dumpster-fire:</i> on the yellow <kbd>deletion scheduled</kbd> tag. This deletes the audit immediately. After that, the project number (external ID) that was linked to this audit will also be available again.

{% hint style="info" %}
An audit with <kbd>deletion scheduled</kbd> or `pending refund review` is not shown in the list by default. Open the client via <kbd>Options</kbd> → <kbd>Organisation</kbd> and then the <kbd>Audits</kbd> tab (not <kbd>Home - all audits</kbd>). Click the icon (`filter audits`) <i class="fa-eye">:eye:</i> at the top right, turn on <kbd>show audits scheduled for deletion</kbd>, and click <kbd>apply</kbd>. You will then see the tag and, for <kbd>deletion scheduled</kbd>, the icon (`delete immediately`).
{% endhint %}

### Deleting audits from test clients

Audits created in a test client (clients with the 'test client' setting on) are automatically deleted after 3 months and cannot be manually deleted earlier. Therefore, the trash icon is missing from the audit list of test clients (regardless of your role).
